New Measurements

Oliver was measured two weeks ago when we went to the doctor. Here are his stats:

At 7 months:

your child is 20 pounds, and that is
at the 66th percentile for weight.

your child is 27.25 inches, and that is
at the 46th percentile for height.

ah, sleep

Oh dear Friend, how I have missed you! [yawn]

O went down about 6 pm last night, we thought for a nap. Turns out that boy was VERY tired. He is currently still asleep and it's after 7 am. I laid down at about 7 last night and woke up a few times, thinking I should get out of my jeans, but I slept until 5 this morning. Whee! :) I shed those rivets and cuddled back in with my hubby for a few hours.

I'll be posting some pictures and videos later today and this week but here's the highlights of our trip:

We met Ella! She is a cutie. I have already forgotten how small and smooshy O used to be. Newborns need a lot of holding but are so smooshable you don't mind; that is unless you're mama and you're having to feed said lump ALL THE TIME.

I get sick! I was not a cutie. I tossed my cookies big time. Think it was something I caught before I left as it was from both ends and I can trace my wobbly tummy for a few days before the tossing. Since I was incapacitated for a whole day, Mom got to take care of O pretty much exclusively for 24 hours. I was so weak I didn't want to even pick him up in case I dropped him.

Mom gets sick! Thankfully I was mostly well by then and could then take over with O. Gah the sickness. Gah gah gah. Thank goodness C and A have cable.

O gets solid food! He was a cutie. He didn't really react to his first taste of sweet potatoes. He seemed to like the spoon much more than the stuff on it. And he burped the sweet potatoes later so his tummy didn't really care for them either. But it's all on my camera and will be uploaded for maximum viewing later.

Our plane is delayed. A lot. This was not cute. We were stuck in the Denver airport for much longer than expected and didn't even land in PDX until 9 pm. We were supposed to arrive at 7:30. Mom and I were so glad for Claire's hospitality, even though she wasn't at her house.

And that's the news for now.

This Week: After the Toe

gah. in handy bulleted format.

  • Tuesday, aka Pinky's Doomsday, also found us taking Ranger to the vet. He was breathing heavily, losing weight and was very lethargic. They took xrays and found that 2/3 of his lung compacity was filled with fluid of some sort. They drained it via syringe (well most of it) and told us they still weren't sure what it was or what caused it. They let us bring him home the next day but we have an appointment in Pullman on Monday to get him an ultrasound. It could be an infection (and we're giving him antibiotics now) or it could be cancer. We're pretty worried about our furry, well a bit less furry after shaving bits of him, friend.
  • Thursday I don't remember.
  • Friday I became an auntie again! Eleanor Leighanne was born at 7:01 pm CST, at 21 1/4 inches long and 8 pounds 4 ounces! We are super excited to meet her and can't wait to see how much cuter she can get! (Hint: not much, she set a high bar) Christi has a few pics and a video up on her site.
  • Friday evening we found out some bad news, health related about one of our family members, but I'm not sure I have leave to announce it to the interwebs so we'll leave it at that.
  • Sabbath found me unable to wear the one type of clothing that still fits this postpartum body: my shoes. This sent me into a tailspin that affected O for the rest of the day. It was bad. Basically no napping until bedtime. But he does enjoy Sabbath School.
All in all, a pretty eventful, traumatic, special, fatastic, icky week.

Hangin' Tough

Oliver and I had a tough day yesterday.
Tough because he had a crying spell, which made me have a crying spell. But we're hangin' in there.

I put him down for his morning nap, had JUST gotten him asleep in my arms, but oh no. He KNEW he wasn't being held anymore and let it loose. I could not get him to stop.
I left him there because sometimes he just fusses for a bit and sleep over comes him. That didn't work.

I went back in and talked to him. No dice.
I picked him up and tried to re-rock him. Made it worse.
By this time it's about time to feed him again so I got his bottle ready of the milk I'd pumped the night before. Only 3 oz but it would have to do.

Boy did that bottle go down fast and then you'd have thought I'd cut him.

Since by now I am also crying buckets, I figured 'To heck with it! I'm giving him formula!' and he sucked down another 3 oz. He was VERY hungry. After that he was just fine. Fussed a bit til he burped and then was a happy little clam.

-----

After dinner (his not mine) he was having some floor time rolling towards his toys. He's gotten good at rolling onto his side and trying to reach for things. And I watched him roll all the way over, back to front. Now granted, he did trap one arm under him and was a bit confused why he couldn't move much. But he DID IT! He kept kind of lolling from side to side so I got the video camera out but of course he got all camera shy.

-----

I do have a small collection of photos on my digital camera that I need to download. I'll try to get to that today and show you some good O shots.

-----

And the whole reason for that title.

Hallelu-wha?

Sleep schedule has been as follows:

Last night: 9 pm -5:30 am
Saturday night: 8 pm - 4 am
Friday night: 8 pm - 5 am
Thursday night: 9 pm - 3 am
Wednesday: see previous post

I keep thinking I'm going to jinx myself by talking about it but so far so good. I didn't even set my alarm last night. Whew. I think we're gonna survive this thing!

Milestone: Hallelujah

Dear Internet,
I wish to inform you of the awesomeness of sleep. I know sleep is awesome because I got six and a half hours of it tonight. Straight.
And my DS Oliver knows it's awesome because he got eight hours. No, you read that right. Eight hours. Fed at seven last night, down by eight, awake and RAVENOUS at four am. YES!
Until we sleep again,
Mom

Products that Work for this Mom

Lansinoh Clean and Condition Cloths
I was using the Natural or Sensitive Huggies wipes but got a sample of these. The Huggies tend to dry out my hands to the point of cracked skin. These are super soft, easy to take out of the package, there's no tub to refill and the lanolin in the wipes means that we hardly ever have to use diaper ointment on baby, and my hands don't crack either. O's little bottom stays clean, soft and rash-free.
Playtex Disposable Nursing Pads
I've tried these, Lansinoh's and Johnson&Johnsons. I like Johnson&Johnson's formed pad, with the extra room for your nipple but they're too small. They barely cover anything. Lansinoh's are larger but don't have enough adhesive to stay put. Playtex Pads are larger, have a little elastic around the sides to cup your breast and have adhesive on top and bottom to keep things put.
Of course there are other things we use for baby and mom, but these are the stand out winners so far.
More to come.

One Month Old

Oliver had his one month check up today. He's healthy and growing good! He lucked out with no shots. There's a new immunization schedule apparently, so next month he'll get one. He almost tipped the scale to 10 pounds with a kicking foot but they took the lower weight instead. Doc moved his legs around to check his hip action, looked in his ears and mouth, checked his soft spot and palpated his tummy. We talked about how often he ate and how much he slept. Doc is somewhat more concerned with my amount of sleep right now than with O's. So he gave me some suggestions and an article he really likes. So E and I will try a few things: a set bed time, and once we set him down at night, we don't pick him up. Comfort and talk to him but he stays in his basket. So no more sleeping on me! Whew. Here are his stats:

Serving Fresh Baby Cheeks Daily

So apparently I talked about the piece of furniture we bought for the baby's room... but never posted about it. So, here it is:
We got this back in March. It's a perfect height for a changing table, with the contoured pillow on top that I registered for. All the dresser's we looked at were either too high or too low, and we didn't like the styles of all the actual baby changing tables. So we got this.

Belly - 26 weeks

As promised here are some new belly pics. I still think I look rather hideous other than the belly, but I'm enjoying the belly and all it's kicks and machinations anyway. :)
