Hindsight: Story 2

Munchkin's Missing Night

When I traveled to Christi's last month, Ethan was left alone at home. He went for a walk that Friday night, and as usual the kittens followed him. They're so cute when they do that. They'll follow us for blocks and explore all the bushes and new smells. They'll cross streets with us and generally be our little shadows.

1st block: They were right on his tail. Ethan crosses Chestnut and keeps walking. Looks back, Nibblet in tow. But no Munchkin. Hmm. Well he was still within sight of the house so he figured even if he was under a bush he could make it home. Ethan finished his walk still trailing a Nibblet. But there's no Munchkin, either inside or in the yard. Hmm.

Ethan figures he'll eventually show up. They do have their own cat door and all. Ethan goes to bed.

Munchkin finally shows up sometime the next morning. But parts of him are missing. A small patch of fur on his right forearm; and a patch of fur with a scratch right next to his nose in the whisker area. Yikes. But he seems fine. No blood; lots of purring. So, okay. Hope that doesn't happen again.

We watch him a bit more carefully in the next few weeks. He starts to grow fur again. Then a scratch appears on his forearm where there is no fur. Hmm. He cleans it up though and appears fine. Until the lump starts to grow. And then he's sleeping alot.
We take him to the vet to fix his abcess as it can't be much else. They drain it and drug him. He is NOT happy. They also put a drain in that has to stay in for a few days. They tell us how to clean it with cotton balls and soapy water. But we never had to. Munchkin kept it clean and then we took him back to have it taken out and for his cat lukemia booster shot. He was so good. A model cat. The vet even said, "I would take a dozen of him." To which Ethan replied, "We've got a spare at home. They're brothers."

Munchkins holes are closing up and he's much better. But he does NOT like his medicine twice a day.

They really are my children. I worried about him the whole day he was at the vet. And I tried to console him during his shot. I'm a freak. I love them a lot.
